ECE Taskforce: Update 23 December 2010

Kia ora koutou! This is the second update on the work of the ECE Taskforce. The Taskforce is committed to being open and transparent and we are keen for feedback and thoughts from you on Early Childhood Education (ECE) in New Zealand.

Progress to date

The Taskforce met for the third time in December. We talked about how we would like to see the ECE sector evolve over the next 3-5 years. We imagine a highly professional, innovative and collaborative sector. Minutes from our November meetings are now available on this website, in the Essential Reading section http://www.taskforce.ece.govt.nz/essential-reading/.
The Essential Reading section also contains a series of background papers that were prepared for us by the Taskforce Secretariat (located in the Ministry of Education). More relevant documents are regularly being added to this section so keep your eye out for new material.

We have received a number of submissions and comments from the public. This information is highly valuable to our work. We encourage you to be a part of this process. Please provide your thoughts, no matter how informal and remember, submissions close on 31 January 2011. Details on how to let us share your feedback with us can be found below under the ‘Get Involved’ title.

Our work is now moving on to thinking about the content of our report. Further meetings are set for February 2011.

You can share your feedback with us on this website in the comments section: http://www.taskforce.ece.govt.nz/comments/ or you can simply leave a comment on the ECE Taskforce Facebook page (ECE Taskforce NZ).

This website has information about the Taskforce including the formal terms of reference, reference documents, links to media releases and information on how the public can get involved. The Essential Reading page contains documents relevant to our work.

Get involved

We are interested in hearing from you on any topic relevant to our work. Your submission can be formal or informal and can be made by:
• emailing the Taskforce mailbox: ece.taskforce@minedu.govt.nz
• leaving a message on the comments section of this website: http://www.taskforce.ece.govt.nz/comments/
• joining and commenting on the ECE Taskforce Facebook page – ECE Taskforce NZ.

While you may comment on any aspect of ECE that you wish to, the Taskforce is particularly interested in hearing your answers to the following questions:
1. What is the most important issue facing ECE at the moment?
2. What do you value most about ECE?
3. What are the key barriers to you accessing ECE?

We welcome all submissions, which close on 31 January 2011. Please let us know if you want your submission to remain confidential to the Taskforce.

The Taskforce report is due to Government in March 2011.
